Random Thought

One more little blurb/thought about the health care changes - are specialists going to be paid the same amount they are now? Maybe some people think they get 'too much' but I am in awe of surgeons and specialists. They do a job very few can. In fact, there is one in Texas who was the only person able to do a specific surgery on a particular debilitating genetic disorder (that for the life of me, I can never remember the name of). There is a little girl in my city that travels with her family to Texas a few times a year for him to operate on her. Without him, she would have died. He is old and going to retire soon. He had a heart attack and had to shorten his surgeries for others with this or similar conditions from 3 to 1 a day. He is a miracle worker and the family feels he is worth every penny they have to pay (multiple thousands). He is trying to train others to do the same procedures but I have not heard if any have been successful yet... It is an extremely difficult surgery that needs to be done multiple times as the child grows. Will he get the pay that he deserves if national health is involved? I can't imagine what some of these surgeons and specialists have to do every day, they do not deserve to have their pay reduced if the national system cannot keep up with their current wages. I would like to know what's going to happen with that.

The canadian system mostly runs on a fee-per-visit option. I don't know for sure what happens with specialists but there are NO Canadian doctors willing to do that surgery up here (or none able to). Why should they get a fee-per-visit on such a specialized and highly dangerous, difficult, and time-consuming procedure? But that is what happens up here as far as I can find.
I know that Wiki is not the best for examples lol but most of the article has citations to check out, so that's what I look for.

Anyway I am just wondering how these specialists and surgeons are going to keep getting the same pay if things become totally nationalized..... most of the richer docs I know in my town actually come from family money and/or have separate business ventures going on outside the medical field.
